#LES RUGBYWOMEN
TACKLING STEREOTYPES

BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA (2017)

INFO

Rugby is a sport that has been recently introduced in Colombia. Between June and August 2017, I followed a group of rugbywomen from Minotauros team, one of the most important rugby clubs of Bogotá. The main purpose was to understand the way they experienced this sport in their daily life. During two months, I introduce myself in the “rugby community” of Bogotá. By doing so, I discovered the impact of rugby in the everyday life of Minotauro's rugbywomen. Based on the photographic participatory experience in Sarcelles, thie visual research sought to understand the relationship between rugby, gender and social stereotypes. More widely, this project explored participatory and committed visual practices when studying rugby-women’s lives. Rather than using photography as an instrument to describe the reality, I employ it as a device to (re)create the empowering impact of rugby in their daily life.

This project started as part of a doctoral research in photography, sociology and visual anthropology (EHESS, Paris).

This research was supported by the Society for Visual Anthropology/Robert Lemelson Foundation Fellowship, made possible by a generous donation from The Robert Lemelson Foundation.
